This position is responsible for the development and care of all injection mold tooling, thru New Model Launch activities and managing in-house tooling maintenance staff while supporting Process Engineers for the Atlanta facility. Primary duties include part design feasibilities and providing direction on all tooling RFQs targeted for this facility, coordinating tooling kick-off, tracking progress, interpretation and direction on all CAE activity, providing direction to tooling suppliers, mold sampling qualifications and approvals, and working on cross-functional teams for continuous improvements.


  • Maintain a clean and safe work area and report any unsafe working conditions
  • Lead the development of technical specifications for future tooling projects and processes
  • Research and adapt innovative technologies to improve current tooling and process capabilities
  • Support production as issues arise with current systems to ensure equipment downtime is minimized
  • Provide technical assistance to help resolve quality concerns, increase productivity, and improve safety
  • Supervise/work closely with the in house tooling staff, directing all PM, continuous improvement and repair activity
  • Develop operation instructions and provide all documentation associated with tool room activities
  • Ensure all tooling meets all safety requirements allowing for safe operation in production
  • Provide technical assistance and direct the development, quoting, design, sampling, and launch of injection mold tooling
  • Clarify and enforce EGI tooling standards
  • Represent EGI with vendors and customers concerning tooling development and quality
  • Work closely with New Model Launch team tracking tool from kick-off to launch
  • Maintain New Model Launch List
  • Provide daily support to process engineers to ensure tooling stability, scrap reduction, and process improvements
  • Work closely with suppliers to keep projects on track and ensure mold functionality through program life
  • Participate on cross functional Kaizen teams and continuous improvement initiatives

Decision Making Authority:

  • Authorized to lock-out equipment that is considered unsafe for operation, must notify production supervision
  • Determines list of qualified tooling suppliers and decides when and where to outsource projects
  • Makes key decisions on tooling concerning RFQ, feasibilities, construction and analysis

Preferred Qualifications:


  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering; preferably Mechanical Engineering
  • 5-7 years tooling experience in an automotive manufacturer or supplier
  • In depth experience drawing with CAD software
  • Plastic Injection Mold Experience required

Required Education/Qualifications for Hire or Promotion:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering or equivalent work experience
  • 2-5 years engineering experience in an automotive manufacturer
  • Working knowledge of CAD software
  • Good computer skills including MS Office products
  • Must have good mechanical skills and technical knowledge of injection mold tooling
  • Problem solving knowledge and experience
  • Basic understanding of tool designs and construction
  • Good communication skills both written and verbal
  • High degree of self-motivation, commitment, and integrity, team player


Work Environment and Physical Demands

  • Employee must adhere to company safety policies, includes wearing required PPE
  • Occasional exposure to difficult working conditions (heat, dirt, fumes, lubricants, etc)
  • Must be capable of lifting a minimum of 40 pounds overhead
  • Ability to stand for long periods on concrete floor
  • Attend scheduled work hours on a regular and timely basis. Maintain good attendance
  • Must be able to work off shifts and overtime as required
  • Must be willing to travel, including out of the country, up to 25% of the work time
