Overview

The Commercial Manager works with the Business Unit Manager to manage and facilitate the customer Request for Quotation process and to follow program/program costs through the development lifecycle and production phases.  The Commercial Manager is the primary liaison between the external customer and the internal cost estimating team.  The Commercial Manager is responsible for negotiating and establishing customer selling prices and is responsible for tracking, monitoring, and improving financial performance of all assigned projects.

Responsibilities

  • Obtains and processes customer RFQ’s; interprets and prepares and quote package for Cost Estimating team
  • Collaborates with all departments and functions to ensure that quote is completed on a timely basis; interfaces with custom for specifications and clarification as needed
  • Works with Business Unit Manager and leadership team to develop customer pricing strategies
  • Completes customer price breakdown schedules and submits quotations to customers
  • Participates in or leads customer and internal technical reviews as required
  • Communicates new business award to leadership and program teams
  • Receives, verifies, and tracks customer purchase orders for both tooling and piece price
  • Maintains all customer portals
  • Partners with Program Manager after business award to understand all engineering and scope changes; rolls changes through cost models to ensure that program profitability is maintained or improved
  • Participates in and/or leads Continuous Improvement and cost reduction activities to improve program profitability during development phase and throughout program lifecycle
  • Negotiates service pricing and life-times builds at end of production
  • Ensures all customer documentation requirements are met
  • Negotiates or assists in resolving customer pricing or quality issues
  • Participates in development of strategic plans, sales forecasts, and budgets
  • Understands and communicates customer volumes, production plans, and life cycle changes
  • Completes all other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Required Skills and Experience

 

  • Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with customers and fellow associates
  • Excellent collaboration, communication, and negotiation skills
  • Ability to success in a matrixed / cross-functional role
  • Ability to work in a high speed / fast paced environment
  • Excellent problems solving and analysis skills
  • Strong MS Office and Excel skills

 

Preferred Skills

  • Automotive experience
  • Plastics experience preferred
  • Experience with reading and interpreting blueprints and CAD drawings

 

Education and Job Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering
  • At least 5 years’ experience in costing, account management, or program financials.
  • 3-5 years Automotive manufacturing
  • Working knowledge of plastics

 

Work Environment and Physical Demands

  • Employee may be required to work overtime, at times with little advance notice.
  • Travel to customer locations or EGT manufacturing plants may be required.
  • While in manufacturing locations, employees may be exposed to forklift traffic, moving production line, and fumes. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
  • Employees may be required to lift and/or move objects weighing up to 25 lbs.
