Manages and deploys new product introduction (NPI) manufacturing and engineering personnel developing and supporting processes, fixtures, and other electro-mechanical equipment to facilitate new product introduction. In addition to managing those responsible for NPI will be directly responsible for various NPI projects as a contributing project manager. Works cross functionally to reduce costs, improve quality and increase profitability. Creates systemic processes to ensure an efficient and consistent process by which new products are transitioned from development to ongoing production. This position reports to the Plant Manager. The successful candidate will be an enthusiastic team player with high energy and strong engineering management skills.

The above will be accomplished by collaborating with cross functional teams in all facilities in new product introduction throughout all development phases. The position will be responsible for ensuring optimum design for manufacturability and test early in the new product development and introduction process. The role involves leading cross functional teams to develop advanced manufacturing processes. Implementation of leading edge technologies and innovative processes to build excellence in product and process development is expected.

This person must also be highly self-motivated, have an intense customer focus and be able to satisfy both internal and external customer requirements. Outstanding presentation and project management skills are required.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Experienced in Tool steels and various thermoplastic materials
  • Experienced in Mold flow and Structural FEA Analysis
  • Experienced in 3D CAD and manufacturing processes in Injection Molding
  • Expertise and commitment to Six Sigma practices and elimination of waste
  • Manages and coordinates the work of a highly skilled engineering staff placing particular emphasis on project management with the objective of supporting all manufacturing efforts and development, validation and improvement of customer products through the implementation of cost –effective rapid prototyping and manufacturing techniques, methods and procedures to enhance processes to reduce costs, and improve quality of products
  • Must be familiar with the traditional design/manufacturing process, equipment, and methods used in the plastic injection molding industry, and be able to demonstrate creativity and initiative in attacking problems / opportunities.
  • Fluency in the application of design-for-manufacturability, cost reduction, and design optimization techniques
  • Individual must be able to readily analyze complex numerical data, and to present this data in a clear, concise, and logical manner to effectively facilitate decision-making
  • Individual must work effectively in a cross-functional team environment, and have excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Must also have a full understanding of the bigger business environment, and then work closely with Sales, Estimating, Procurement, Finance/Accounting, Manufacturing and Quality to efficiently drive team progress, and to insure that projects align with Group strategic and tactical objectives
  • Strong analytical, numerical and reasoning abilities-- Participative management style / advocates team concept-- Well-developed interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to get along with diverse personalities.
  • Create and control Engineering department goals and objectives
  • Consult or negotiate with clients to finalize engineering project specifications
  • Negotiate with 3rd party engineering suppliers to get the best business deals
  • Implement approved engineering budgets and monitor actual expenses to ensure they fall within budgets, analyzing out of budget expenses and ensuring they are offset in other areas of the project unless fully justified.
  • Submit and justify all working capital requirements


Required Competencies, Skills and Experience

  • Preferred Qualifications for Hire or Promotion:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or related experience equivalent
  • Proven track record in equipment and control system project /commissioning/management.
  • Must have at least (5) years of engineering management experience within an automotive or related environment
  • Must be a team player, capable of working well with others
  • Must be able to Communicate effectively (written and oral), delegate, prioritize, and manage time efficiently
  • Must demonstrate strong leadership skills, sound judgment, and unquestionable integrity


Required Education/Qualifications for Hire or Promotion:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or related experience equivalent
  • Leadership and administrative training (e.g. seminars, collage classes, workshops, on-line webinars, etc.)
  • Computer literate with experience in MS Office applications, 3D CAD,
  • Must have at least (5) years of engineering management experience within an automotive or related environment
  • Must be able to perform each essential function and responsibility of the job satisfactorily in accordance with company productivity and quality requirements
  • A working understanding of reading blue prints, schematics, design, layout,


Education and Job Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering
  • Must have at least (5) years of engineering management experience within an automotive or related environment
  • Must have experience developing new model implementation plans
  • Knowledge of injection mold machines, die cast machines, robots, and general assembly equipment
  • Must have excellent organization, supervisory, managerial and leadership skills to manage a team of engineers and technical staff.
  • Must have proven multitasking skills and can work under extreme pressure.
  • Must have excellent analytical and computational skills
  • Must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of plastics tooling and materials

Work Environment and Physical Demands

  • Employee must adhere to company safety policies.
  • Job requires individual to lift up to 40lbs and be able to stand on concrete for extended periods
  • Attend scheduled work hours on a regular and timely basis. Maintain good attendance
  • Must be able to work off shifts and overtime as required
  • Must be willing to travel up to 10% of work week
