  • Overview

    Keep buildings in clean and orderly condition. Perform heavy cleaning duties, such as cleaning floors, shampooing rugs, washing walls and glass, and removing garbage. Duties may include performing routine maintenance activities, notifying management of need for repairs, and cleaning snow or debris from sidewalk.

    Responsibilities

    • Clean building floors by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, or vacuuming them.
    • Gather and empty trash.
    • Clean and resupply restrooms.
    • Clean and polish furniture and fixtures.
    • Clean windows, glass partitions, and mirrors, using cleaners, sponges, and squeegees.
    • Dust furniture, walls, machines, and equipment.
    • Mix water, detergents or acids in containers to prepare cleaning solutions, according to specifications.
    • Steam-clean or shampoo carpets.
    • Strip, seal, finish, and polish floors.
    • Clean and restore building interiors damaged by fire, smoke, or water, using commercial cleaning equipment.
    • Clean and maintain janitorial equipment, including power cleaning equipment.
    • Drive to other plants to perform cleaning work, if required. Drive powered floor scrubber.
    • Follow proper procedures for the use of chemical cleaners and power equipment, in order to prevent damage to floors and fixtures and prevent injuries.
    • Notify managers concerning the need for major repairs or replacements.
    • Maintain outer premises by watering plants, cleaning vestibules, removing snow from sidewalks, driveways and parking areas using snow blowers and snow shovels and spread snow melting chemicals.
    • Maintain inventories of janitorial supplies by checking stock and requisition supplies and equipment needed for cleaning and maintenance duties.
    • Set up, arrange, and remove decorations, tables, chairs, ladders, and scaffolding to prepare facilities for events such as banquets and meetings.
    • Clean cleanroom floors, walls, and windows, following cleanroom procedures.

    Qualifications

    Required Competencies, Skills and Experience

    • One year of experience as custodian, janitor or in a similar role
    • Knowledge of use and maintenance of industrial cleaning equipment and appliances
    • Knowledge of safe disposal of chemical liquids and other hazardous components
    • Familiarity with basic landscaping and handyman practices
    • Attention to detail and conscientiousness
    • Very good physical condition and strength
    • Must have own vehicle for transportation to another nearby facility

    Education and Job Experience

    • High school diploma is preferred but not required

The employee occasionally works in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, and toxic chemicals. The employee may occasionally be exposed to the risk of electrical shock from live wires on presses or on the floor. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderately loud.

    This is a part-time position.
