  • Overview

    Responsible for managing the Paint Operation in the New Madison facility.  Oversees execution and development of the paint technician team.  Directs efforts in maintaining existing paint equipment.  Leads paint department efforts to meet plant profitability goals through OEE improvements.

    Responsibilities

    • Ensure all operators, technicians, and paint processes are safe and free of safety hazards
    • Manage paint technicians. This includes but is not limited to- hiring functions, pay review, training, develop, coach and counsel. Engage supervision to assist as required.
    • Lead disciplined paint processing skill development of Paint Techs
    • Implement and maintain WI’s and Checklists for paint process steps
    • Supports New Model Launch activities – paint process development, paint trials & SOP
    • Oversee establishment of painting process to ensure the production of quality parts
    • Maintains/updates master set up sheets for painting parameters
    • Leads Root Cause Analysis efforts utilizing disciplined problem-solving methods
    • Drives process improvements to reduce paint usage and scrap reduction
    • Ensures paint preventative maintenance program is being followed
    • Coordinates operation, maintenance and repair activities to obtain utilization of cycle times, defects and scrap.
    • Responsible for maintaining department within allotted budget
    • Active member of plant leadership team
    • Drive continual improvement initiatives, participate on the CI team was well as events
    • Other duties as assigned

    Qualifications

    Decision Making Authority

    • Oversee and manage the paint department and paint technicians
    • All contact with paint suppliers
    • Authority over all paint line equipment

    • Previous experience and training working with ISO/TS 16949 standards
    • Ability to multi-task

    Preferred Skills

    • Previous Experience working with painted plastic
    • Strong automotive background
    • Hands on paint line experience

    Education and Job Experience Requirements

    • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or other equivalent experience and knowledge
    • At least 5 years’ working experience in paint engineering or management

    Work Environment and Physical Demands

    • This position is frequently exposed to paint and chemicals.
    • This position requires the ability to work in non-climate controlled plant areas and climate controlled office areas.
    • This position is exposed to noisy plant areas, and forklift traffic.
    • This position requires the ability to walk on concrete floors, lift up to 30 pounds, perform repetitive keystrokes on a continual basis, and occasionally bend, kneel, twist, and reach.
