    The Advanced Engineering Center (AEC) at EGI is the center of excellence for the design and manufacture of both medical and automotive molds ranging from 15 to 3000 tons. We are seeking an accomplished Senior Mold Design Engineer for our growing demands to support internal and external mold design projects. This position develops and reviews 2d and 3d injection mold tooling and applicable fixtures. Our Mold Design Engineers interface with internal and external customers to ensure tooling designs meet our high standards here at EGI. This position can be based at various locations but reports to the AEC in Rochester, NY.


    • Design production and prototype tooling and fixtures to specified design criteria considering: annual part volume, cycle time, quoted mold specifications, and tooling budget.
    • Create 2D prints of highly critical areas as well as general tooling layouts.
    • Analyze and provide senior level insight on externally produced tool designs to verify plant and customer specific design specifications are met.
    • Present completed designs for review both internally as well as externally with customer present.
    • Work directly with product designer and tooling engineer to review part designs for manufacturability and suggest applicable improvements (DFM).
    • Perform mold CAE analysis consisting of filling, cooling, and warpage using Moldflow.



    • Minimum 5 years of experience in tooling design using 3D software, preferably SolidWorks. Catia or Siemens NX skills are a plus.
    • Well versed in general mold design standards and practices.
    • In depth understanding of the mold construction process and manufacturing principles.
    • Experience performing and interpreting Moldflow analysis, both Adviser and Insight.
    • FEA analytical experience in Moldflow, or SolidWorks Simulation is a plus.
    • Experience specific to medical and/or automotive industries is a plus.
    • Ability to effectively communicate mold design improvements and suggestions via PowerPoint and email.
    • Must have excellent organizational skills and a high level of follow through.
    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
    • Self-motivated.
    • Minimal travel required.

    Education Requirements                       

    • Two or four year engineering degree and/or completion of skilled trades training applicable to plastics industry.
